Windows celebrates 25 years of computing

posted by admin on Saturday, November 20th 2010

Microsoft Windows, the operating system that rose to dominance of the home and business PC market turns 25 years old today. Windows 1.0 was released on November 20, 1985, and at first didn’t catch on as well as Microsoft had hoped. Two years later Microsoft would release Windows 2.0, and then Windows 3.1 which got the ball rolling.

If you would like to discuss upgrading your systems to Windows 7 and all the other latest Microsoft technologies, why not give the WEBIT team a call on 0131 302 0016.

“During the announcement, Steve Ballmer talked about how Windows 7 has surpassed Microsoft’s expectations and became the fastest selling operating system in history. Microsoft: 175 million Windows 7 licenses sold

posted by rob on Friday, July 23rd 2010

“Microsoft reported a strong Q4 revenue thanks to Windows 7, and with that they announced they have sold 175 million licenses for Windows 7, the fastest selling operating system in history.

Windows 7 was released nine months ago, on October 22, 2009. The OS originally released to manufacturing one year ago. Microsoft announced that Windows 7 is the fastest selling operating system in history, selling over 175 million licenses to date. The company is projected to sell 300 million by the end of 2010.

Microsoft’s success with Windows 7 began before the product was even widely available. Released in October 2009, the operating system has received praise from consumers, businesses, and the media. In November 2009, Windows 7 managed to surpass Apple’s Snow Leopard market share in just two weeks. In early February, it was revealed that Windows 7 had reached 10% market share in just three months.”

Windows 7 -Godmode

posted by admin on Tuesday, January 5th 2010

For those Power Users among us, you can enable a one stop shop for all settings in Windows 7.

Create a new folder (can be anywhere, such as your desktop) and choose the name “GodMode.{ED7BA470-8E54-465E-825C-99712043E01C}” (without the quotes). From here, you can now change/view nearly all of your computer settings in one place.

Microsoft has posted the ‘missing’ family guy clips on their youtube channel. They’re just adverts to be honest…still good though. I rate the first one as the funniest. You be the judge…see the link below for all four clips:

No Support For Family Guy

posted by admin on Monday, October 26th 2009

Despite early approval from Microsoft about a Family Guy special involving Windows 7, Microsoft has confirmed that they’ve dropped their support for the episode.  The reason being that, “…after reviewing an early version of the variety show, it became clear that the content was not a fit with the Windows brand”.  I’m sure avid viewers will understand. But as they say, the show must go on, and so will this: it’s being aired in the US on November 8th. Although it won’t be released in the UK for a few months, our friends across the border will fill us in on what happens.
